Areas of Specialism and Experience
In addition to my private practice experience, I have had many years of working in the NHS and experience of counselling in the voluntary sector in general counselling and in an agency specialising in crisis pregnancy and pregnancy loss counselling, the latter for over eighteen years during which time I held the roles agency coordinator (1995-2009) trainer and supervisor at different times. I have also had training in and experience of counselling adult survivors of childhood abuse. Additionally, I have taught Integrative Counselling up to degree level 6 between 2012 and 2016 most recently teaching counselling and supervision at The Iron Mill College up until 2022. I offer group and individual supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists and others working in caring professions. I also offer reflective practice sessions to a wider group of professions.
My Personal Approach
My counselling training is in an integrative counselling model. This enables me to draw on humanistic, psychodynamic and transpersonal theories and approaches to working within the therapeutic relationship. I believe each person is a unique individual of intrinsic value with immense potential for personal growth. This is reflected in how I work in that the counselling is tailored to what works best for each person, bearing in mind their own uniqueness, preferences, beliefs and values.
Supervision
I offer clinical supervision to counsellors and other caring professions in line with my Integrative Supervision Training. I have experience in the supervision of groups and one to one supervision. My approach uses our supervisor/supervisee relationship to explore what might be happening in the counsellor/client relationship, in order to support you in the ongoing development of your client work and ethical practice. Depending on your individual preference in how we work and in negotiation with you, I might draw on creative methods of supervision as appropriate.
